PORT LUDLOW, October 13, 2009 — Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue responded to a fire that started in a woodstove located inside a gazebo on West Maple Street off Paradise Road Sunday at approximately 2PM. The fire was under control in less than 10 minutes from the time crews arrived.

Embers from the woodstove hit the concrete floor in the gazebo igniting debris scattered by the high winds the area experienced that day. One tree caught fire, but was rapidly extinguished.

The resident’s house, which was less than 20 feet from the gazebo, was not damaged. The gazebo was a complete loss. No injuries were sustained.

Firefighters from District 91, Indian Island, covered Station 31. East Jefferson Fire Rescue crews were on standby, but released when the fire was extinguished.

Brinnon Fire Chief Bob Herbst, who just happened to be in the area on Sunday, was one of the first firefighters on the scene.
