Your Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue Board of Fire Commissioners is comprised of five elected fire commissioners operating under the auspices of Title 52 of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW). Commissioners have a statutory obligation to manage the affairs of the District and establish all District policies. Each fire commissioner is elected to serve a six year term through the Jefferson County Office of Elections. The day to day operations of the District are managed by Fire Chief Ed Wilkerson.
Gene Carmody, ChairmanCommissioner Carmody is the current Chairman of the Board. He is a retired Fire Chief of the Yokusoka, Japan Fire Department. He has served as a fire commissioner for more than nine years and has seen the steady population growth in Port Ludlow which has required increased staff and upgraded equipment. Gene is an active member of the Washington Fire Commissioners Association and currently serves on the state Health Care Committee that oversees the statewide self insured insurance program. Gene is active in the community, currently assisting with the Village Council and volunteers as a proof reader for the Port Ludlow Voice. He serves on the fire district's stategic planning committee and labor/management committee. Gene is married to Kozue and they live in the North Bay area. |
Bill Hansen, Vice ChairmanCommissioner Hansen has been a Port Ludlow Fire Commissioner for over six years. He also served thirteen years as a fire commissioner in Clark County, Washington. Bill is an author and researcher with a focus on high risk youth. In addition to serving as the District Secretary (a position required by RCW) He also serves on the fire district's grants and strategic planning committees and he is also active in the Washington Fire Commissioners Association serving as their state parliamentarian. Commmissioner Hansen is proud of the professional attitudes and proficiency of the fire district staff. Commissioner Hansen lives in the North Bay area and is a proud father of two children and two grandchildren. |
Robert Pontius, CommissionerCommissioner Pontius has served as a Port Ludlow Fire Commissioner for over eleven years. In keeping with his background in the trucking industry, Bob serves on the district's equipment and facilities committee and is also on the labor/management committee. He is an alternate member of the JEFFCOM (911) board and is president of the Jefferson County Fire Commissioners Association. He notes that he is proud to be able to serve the community and the larger public through his fire commissioner role. Bob is a beef rancher living in the Beaver Valley area and the proud father of three children and three grandchildren. |
Dave Wheeler, CommissionerCommissioner Wheeler has served as a commissioner for Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue for over eleven years. He has seen the district evolve and grow. During his tenure, he has seen the district grow from a department that was nearly all volunteer to one that today has fifteen full time employees and fifteen volunteers. He has also seen the district replace and upgrade facilities and equipment with the goal of improving emergency response. Dave serves on the district’s finance committee and apparatus and facilities committee. He is an active member of the Washington State Fire Commissioners Association and most recently completed several years as the WFCA Region 9 Representative. Dave is a retired firefighter from Sacramento, California. He lives in South Bay with his wife Jacquelynn. The Wheeler's have five grown children and three grandchildren. |
Ron Helmonds, CommissionerCommissioner Helmonds was elected to a six year term in beginning January, 2010. He currently serves on the district's finance and safety committees. Ron and Debbie, his wife of 35 years moved to Port Ludlow in 2003 along with their son Jeff and daughter Desiree. After living in the San Francisco Bay Area for nearly 45 years, the move north was a welcomed change. Ron owned and operated a chain of furniture stores in the Bay Area with 8 retail locations and over 150 employees. Ron has an extensive background in business and property management, training and employee relations. Both Ron and Debbie are active in local community groups and events. Ron is currently a Realtor with Coldwell Banker in Port Ludlow where he also is their property manager. Commissioner Helmonds enjoys all water sports including fishing, boating, sailing, and kayaking.
